The HACCP Food Safety Certification Process
Step 1. Initial Presentation and Fee Proposal
· Your Food Safety Plus Client Manager may with your agreement conduct an initial visit to gain a good understanding of your business, team, products and your certification requirements. This can happen either over the phone or with a visit to your office. Your Client Manager will also provide you with all the information you need about HACCP certification, Food Safety Plus processes, a fee structure and what will be required from you. Once your Client Manager understands your requirements, he or she will provide you with a fee proposal detailing fees and costs. This is a free service and carries no obligation to proceed.
Step 2. Application: Becoming a Food Safety Plus Client
· Once you have reviewed and accepted the fee proposal and wish to commit to the Food Safety Plus HACCP certification process, an approved signatory from your organisation should complete, sign and send Food Safety Plus the Criteria and Application Form. This is a formal agreement between your organisation and Food Safety Plus Pty Ltd. It outlines your acceptance of the HACCP certification process, the rules governing certification and related certification marks and contractual terms and conditions.
· Once Food Safety Plus receives the your Application Form and payment of the Application Fee, we will send you an acknowledgement of your application and tax invoice.
Step 3. Document Review
· A review is conducted to ensure that your documented system is likely to meet the requirements of the standard. At the conclusion of the Document Review you will receive a report explaining what we believe is well considered or is not clearly addressed. This step may be undertaken during the HACCP Certification Audit
Step 4. The HACCP Certification Audit
· The Certification Audit is carried out to determine whether your HACCP System complies with the Food Safety Plus Certification standard. The length of time that it takes to carry out the audit will depend on your organisation, number of employees, shifts, products, process complexity and the number of sites that will be pre-arranged with you.
· At the completion of the audit your auditor will hold a closing meeting where she/he will present the Audit Findings and conclusions. These will be documented at the closing meeting and presented to your team. You will then receive an Audit Report that will detail any areas of Non-conformity, Improvement Requests and Observations.
· If there are no significant non-conformities the auditor will recommend certification to the Managing Director. The Managing Director assesses the recommendation and if approved Food Safety Plus will inform you in writing that you have been successful and issue your HACCP Certificate of Registration.
· Your organisation will then be granted the use of the Food Safety Plus Certification Mark on stationery and marketing material.
Step 5. Surveillance Review
· Reviews are carried out in the same manner as the Certification Audit. These are necessary for Food Safety Plus to be assured that your system continues to comply with the HACCP Criteria and for certification to be maintained.
Step 6. Re-certification Audit
· Every 12 months an audit is carried out to confirm that the systems are working well in their entirety.
· Based on the outcomes of the audit, the Food Safety Plus auditor will recommend that certification be renewed, withheld or suspended. Generally a new HACCP Certificate is issued after a successful Re-certification.
HACCP Accreditation or HACCP Certification
HACCP Accredited or HACCP Certified are commonly interchanged terms to describe a business that has been independently audited as meeting the Codex HACCP guidelines. While both terms are often used, HACCP Certification is the correct description and is the term used by all professional auditing organisations. Accreditation is the term most often used following the review of a process or activity by a government department. Examples of accreditation include Aged Care Accreditation and Heavy Vehicle Accreditation System.
